Dovetail Farm, GU35
Dovetail Farm is a quaint farmstead on the Surrey and Hampshire border, combining an historic farmhouse, original barns and established, rambling gardens and grounds, with views across the South Downs National Park. Largely untouched for decades, the farm retains its old-time charm with a variety of backdrops within one contained location.
The farmhouse boasts two opposing architectural facades, providing two houses in one for filming. It’s 16th-century brick origins were added to with an imposing white Gothic-style addition, providing also an interesting blend of interiors including large Gothic windows in light-filled rooms, exposed beams, a traditional cellar, attic spaces and a retro 1960s and 70s kitchen complete with a powder blue Aga. Postbox red doors connect the house with the rest of the farmstead where a collection of old farm buildings provide endless charm, including a substantial timbered barn, an unoccupied two-bedroom cottage, a coach house and a dovecote tower dating back to 1827. The whole site is available for takeovers, inside and out.
Within the grounds sits a walled garden alongside productive vegetable plots and a prize Victorian lean-to greenhouse, whilst an overgrown redundant tennis court has naturally re-wilded with swathes of seasonal wildflowers. Then follows fields and pastures, mature woodland and a steep-sided gully believed to be a former riverbed. These darker corners of the farm also include a dense evergreen woodland area, of conifers.
