Great Martyr Estate, CF32
Great Martyr Estate stretches across 3,500 acres of varied landscape, offering a rare mix of coastal, rural and historic backdrops, all within easy reach of South Wales’ main transport links and film studios.
The Georgian mansion house boasts grand exteriors and elegant period interiors that have been carefully maintained. Across the estate, a collection of traditional stone barns and modern farm buildings offer authentic working-farm textures, with some buildings familiar with film-set dressing, including a striking stone barn dressed as a pub, and an American-style barn set in the woods. There are also castle ruins and the remnants of a small medieval chapel on the estate, both offering formidable backdrops.
The surrounding villages feature some estate-owned colourful cottages and thatched properties, perfect for rural or period scenes.
The landscape is open and diverse, and its rolling grass fields and parkland flow down to the Heritage Coast, where the estate meets part of the 840-acre National Nature Reserve and the second-highest sand dune in Europe. Parts of the beach are privately owned by the estate.
Two wide rivers cross the estate, each spanned by old stone bridges, and a set of stepping stones beside a white thatched cottage provide a particularly picturesque filming spot.
