Hidden Farm, CM15

Hidden Farm is a 2,000 acre working arable estate in Essex, with an unusually broad mix of landscapes, farm buildings and a significant secret location: a preserved, large wartime bunker. The estate combines open farmland, woodland, lakes, ponds and private roads with a collection of historic original structures, making Hidden Farm’s large privately-owned multi-site location particularly flexible and practical for productions.

The farmyards span several eras, from an original 18th-century granary and red brick horse stables to modern agricultural buildings. A Georgian country manor and distinctive red brick clock tower are set just away from the working farmyards, and also close by is a WWII (World War 2) concrete shelter and a substantial Cold War nuclear bunker. The bunker includes extensive tunnels and underground rooms, still furnished with original sets and props, offering a variety of period doubles – spanning hospital-style interiors to telecoms rooms, with preserved equipment still in situ, and all accessible for film crews.

With its combination of farming landscapes, rural and wartime heritage, woodland and other unusual locations, Hidden Farm has plenty of hidden gems on offer. More unexpected backdrops include a high ropes course, bike track, outdoor obstacle areas and a lake crossed by a bridge.
