The Luce River Estate, DG8
Luce River Estate is a remote 7,000-acre slice of south-west Scotland, offering vast open landscapes, rugged moorland and dramatic river scenery. The estate combines expansive working farmland with isolated historic buildings, dense woodland and a network of rivers and streams, creating a wide range of natural filming environments within a single location.
The landscape stretches across rolling hills, open grazing land, peat bogs and wide moorland, with far-reaching views across the surrounding countryside. Dense woodland provides a darker, more enclosed setting, while the estate’s river winds through the landscape, beginning as a narrow spring before widening into a series of pools, waterfalls and rocky crossings. Much of the river remains easily accessible, with a variety of natural backdrops along its course.
The estate also offers a diverse collection of buildings. A large 19th-century hunting lodge with traditional interiors sits at its centre, alongside a small gamekeeper’s cottage. Elsewhere are scattered farm buildings, an early 20th-century ruined cottage and a traditional Scottish crofter’s cottage that now stands empty, providing an authentic weathered backdrop. Together, the buildings range from well-maintained period interiors to isolated, derelict structures surrounded by rugged countryside.

Facilities at the location
Luce River Estate offers extensive hardstanding parking along its private access track, with the hunting lodge available as both a crew base and overnight accommodation. The lodge provides kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and communal spaces, sleeping up to 10 guests. Catering can be self-managed using the lodge’s facilities, with supermarket deliveries available to the estate.
Getting to Luce River Estate
Despite its secluded setting, Luce River Estate is accessible by both road and rail. Trains from London connect to Stranraer, followed by a taxi to the estate. By car, the estate is approximately two and a half hours from Glasgow.
