Country House at Dee Estate
At the heart of Welsh Dee Estate stands a striking Gothic-style country house, originally built in 1380 as a medieval hunting lodge. In the 1830s, a rear wing was added and neo-Gothic windows introduced, layering later Gothic detail onto the original medieval structure.
The house sits seamlessly within its landscape, following the natural contours of the gardens and adjacent motte. With a large lawn to the front, the River Dee flowing past the rear, and mountains forming a dramatic backdrop, it offers a very distinctive setting. Rich interior details, including historic church glass and a 60-foot underground tunnel, add to its atmospheric, film-ready character.
Gothic cottage at Dee Estate
Across the river from the country house at Dee Estate sits a small Gothic cottage set within its own garden. Full of character and available for interiors, it offers a more intimate Gothic setting that works as a contrast to the main house or as a standalone location.
The Gothic Look
Our Gothic-inspired locations capture the drama, atmosphere, and character of the Gothic aesthetic, even if they aren’t strictly historic Gothic buildings. These sites feature tall windows, ornate detailing, dark timber, stonework and moody interiors, providing a perfect backdrop for period dramas, TV, film and photography.
