Tudor Houses across England

Tudor houses are defined by exposed timber framing with plaster or brick infill, often whitewashed or left bare. Many feature jettied upper floors, steep front gables and small leaded windows, giving them a distinctive and recognisable exterior.

Inside, interiors are typically beam-heavy, with oak panelling and original details such as linen-fold carving in grander rooms. These buildings offer strong period character on camera, providing authentic Tudor interiors and exteriors that require minimal set dressing.

Take a look at the farmhouses, country houses and manors from the Tudor Era available for filming and photoshoots.

Traditional Tudor Barns

Tudor barns are easy to recognise, with dark timber frames set against pale walls, steep roofs and strong gable ends. Built larger than houses, they often mix brick or stone with solid medieval construction, giving them a distinctive, historic look.

Many feature large entrances and tall, open interiors, sometimes across multiple levels, making them practical and visually striking on camera. With their space, texture and clear period character, Tudor barns work well as authentic backdrops for film, TV and photography.

Tudor-Influenced Cotswold Architecture

At Buttermilk Farm, the buildings are Cotswold stone rather than true Tudor, but they carry many of the same visual cues. Built slightly later, they feature exposed beams, original flagstone floors and traditional proportions, giving them a similar historic feel on camera.

The farm includes a picturesque stone manor house and annexe, set around an old farm courtyard with untouched stone barns and outbuildings. Cobbled floors, heavy beams and weathered stonework create a cohesive, authentic setting, with multiple complementary backdrops within one location.
