LOCATION SUCCESS STORIES

Hear what the owners have to say

We work with a wonderful community of farm and rural landowners and many now have valuable experience in being a location host. There are a whole mix of reasons for hosting, and stories to tell. Here's just a taster

Three Ways Farm, Gloucestershire

When siblings Josie, Robin and Jasmine Turner inherited Three Ways Farm, a beautifully untouched 16th-century farmstead, they knew it had filming potential. But they weren’t sure how to break into the industry.

After restoring the old barns and farmhouse, they left the courtyard unused, hoping it might find a new purpose. Then, after hearing about Farm Locations on BBC Radio 4, they got in touch, and within two months, their farm was shortlisted for Speak No Evil, a Universal Pictures film starring James McAvoy.

Despite some early challenges, the production chose Three Ways Farm and ended up filming there for nine months. Farm Locations managed everything from contracts to logistics, allowing the Turners to carry on farming nearby while earning extra income.

The experience brought lasting benefits too; the production repaired a bridge, added a wildlife pond, and left new hardstanding. For the Turners, it was the perfect first step into filming.

From Family Farm to Universal Pictures

“We were never interested in modernising these buildings. But using them for film? That’s temporary, exciting, and completely different from our everyday lives”

Runaway Farm, Inside M25

Arable farm. Gym. Cafe. Campsite. Events…

…and Kate Moss was filmed here!

“The locations side of the farm business doesn’t need a P&L. There are no costs except my time. It’s a pure profit model which is a rare and brilliant thing”

Cherry Farm, Hertfordshire

Owner Vicky has hosted 100 shoots since signing up with Farm Locations!

“Please don’t ask me to pick a favourite. All I know is I am hooked and bereft when a hire comes to an end.

This old farm and I have no desire to be shiny and new.

Instead I’m enjoying sharing my father’s 1970s kitchen with the likes of Jason Statham and Rowan Atkinson.”

IT’S BEEN LIFE-CHANGING.”

Firedown Farm, West Sussex

Ridley Scott, his 750 crew, cast and 60 horses descended here as the only UK location chosen for Gladiator II.

“I must be the only farmer to claim to have carted cattle manure for Ridley Scott. I was asked to lay a Roman road with it!”

Red Farm, Oxford Shire

The location for 5 series of CBBC’s Operation Ouch.

“We provide the spaces for every need, so it’s a breeze to produce all episodes here now. It’s so good to know the doctors wholly support our mission to regenerate people’s connection with food, farming and nature.”

Dormouse Farm, Oxfordshire

“We have a famous palace that’s busy with filming. I’d never even thought about promoting a derelict, crumbling farmyard on the wider estate until I met Jo. Within a week of chatting, and before we were even listed, we had a recce that turned into a lovely big hire.”

Sandy Farm, Surrey

“When we have a shoot, I like to muck in. It’s part of the fun to be one of the crew and to make friendships on the day. Everyone is respectful and appreciates what we do here. I’ve been thrown in front of the camera on some shoots, too. Teaching the YouTubers Sidemen how to farm has now reached over 9 million views!”

Foxfield Farm, Greater London

A professional photo gallery transformed demand from ZERO shoots in one year to TWELVE shoots in the next year.

“We couldn’t believe how enquiries sky-rocketed after the photos changed. Offering the farm as a location has been a lot easier than farming! “

Poets Farm, Berkshire

It’s not the pretty that gets the hires.

“I blame Farm Locations for the mess! Since the last tenant took flight, film-makers and photographers can’t get enough of the abandonment. We are leaving it as it is for now, whilst the hires come in”

Ten Acre Woods, Somerset

Located just 16 miles from Bottleyard Film Studios in Bristol.

“ We moved out for 50 days, whilst Dawn French moved in. A highlight was to be invited to perform as an extra, and to watch the crew and actors at work in our house. Now they’ve gone, we are back home enjoying the complete repaint in colours of our choosing. We’d do it all again in a heartbeat.”
