Meet the team behind Farm Locations
Jo Thompson set up Farm Locations in 2015, after discovering first-hand just how hard it was for a farm to get noticed by the film industry.
When her family farm began to diversify, she listed with a London location agency and waited. And waited. A couple of years went by without a single enquiry.
With further digging around and testing out, it seemed location agencies weren’t that interested in what her farm had to offer.
But Jo was. She could see the potential, so took matters into her own hands, created a website and reached out to the industry directly. Slowly, the shoots started to come in — firstly Tatler, and soon followed Ted Baker, EE and Jeremy Clarkson’s The Grand Tour.
With roots in farming and a career in media and property, Jo found herself in a unique position to build a bridge between two very different worlds. Then followed an organic growth in the farms joining the portfolio, starting in her local area of Kent and Sussex, and eventually spreading UK wide.
Over the past 11 years, the first-hand experience has grown into a big black book of industry contacts, connections and hard-won knowledge. Along the way, Farm Locations has helped hundreds of landowners and productions find the right match, turning rural spaces into film, TV and photoshoot locations and helping landowners discover an entirely new source of income.
Today, it’s Jo, Carolyn, Gemma, Marta and Claire behind the scenes — here to be your friendly face, helping hand and useful guide to an industry that can feel a world away from what you do every day. We know the ropes, we know the people, and we’re here to help you make the most of the opportunities that come your way.
