Could your farm be a film set waiting to happen?

From working farms and country estates to cottage garden plots and everything in between — productions are looking for all kinds of rural properties, and yours could be exactly what they need. Whether it’s grand or humble, near the city or tucked away, there’s a production somewhere that’s looking for a place just like it.

Since 2015, we’ve helped farmers and growers earn extra income by opening their gates to the right opportunities. Register your interest below and we’ll be in touch to tell you more about how it works.

DIVERSIFY A SIMPLE WAY

When it comes to farm diversification, few opportunities offer the profit margin potential that film and photo shoots do. You already have the foundations in place — the backdrops and buildings, the views and vibe.

Now on to the next step, and that’s where Farm Locations comes in.

We’re here to make things happen, and to make the process smoother. We give landowners the confidence to understand what’s possible, the knowledge to navigate a new industry and the support to make the most of every opportunity — while earning a bonus income that’s very tricky to generate alone.

From major feature films and crime dramas to Christmas TV ads, fashion shoots for magazines and retailers, or quirky music videos and celebrity interviews, we’ve arranged productions of all shapes and sizes, right across the UK. Why couldn’t your farm host a film crew soon too?

No capital investment. Just show an interest and then a next-to-nothing start-up price to get underway. Register your interest and we can share how.

Meet the team behind Farm Locations

Jo Thompson set up Farm Locations in 2015, after discovering first-hand just how hard it was for a farm to get noticed by the film industry.

When her family farm began to diversify, she listed with a London location agency and waited. And waited. A couple of years went by without a single enquiry.

With further digging around and testing out, it seemed location agencies weren’t that interested in what her farm had to offer.

But Jo was. She could see the potential, so took matters into her own hands, created a website and reached out to the industry directly. Slowly, the shoots started to come in — firstly Tatler, and soon followed Ted Baker, EE and Jeremy Clarkson’s The Grand Tour.

With roots in farming and a career in media and property, Jo found herself in a unique position to build a bridge between two very different worlds. Then followed an organic growth in the farms joining the portfolio, starting in her local area of Kent and Sussex, and eventually spreading UK wide.

Over the past 11 years, the first-hand experience has grown into a big black book of industry contacts, connections and hard-won knowledge. Along the way, Farm Locations has helped hundreds of landowners and productions find the right match, turning rural spaces into film, TV and photoshoot locations and helping landowners discover an entirely new source of income.

Today, it’s Jo, Carolyn, Gemma, Marta and Claire behind the scenes — here to be your friendly face, helping hand and useful guide to an industry that can feel a world away from what you do every day. We know the ropes, we know the people, and we’re here to help you make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

MEET THE OWNERS

We cannot speak too highly of Farm Locations – nothing is too much trouble and their understanding of what farms across the country have to offer to the industry is second to none. We really feel Farm Locations has put us on the map and we look forward to working with them again in the future.

Josie, Three Ways Farm, Gloucestershire

Thank you all for your support this year – super exciting times and we thoroughly enjoyed the start of the journey. Love what you are doing towards farming diversification and the impact for the countryside which shouldn’t be under estimated. Great stuff!
