Home to two ancient, preserved farmyards just 300 metres from one another, there’s no place quite like it. Featuring a charming selection of traditional, unspoilt farm buildings and houses just a stone’s throw away from the M25, it makes stepping back to a untainted bygone era completely possible, all within a short distance from London.
Sitting inside the M25, Merula Farm and Corn Farm are large working farm locations when looking to film close to London. The farms expands across thousands of acres providing huge scope of landscapes to choose from including golden wheat and silvery rye fields, grassland and pretty backwater spots too.
Many of our countryside film locations in Hertfordshire find themselves within short distances of major film studios in particular Leavesden Studios and Elstree Studios, making them great satellite shoot locations, unit bases, storage solutions or set build spaces. Cherry Farm, Chess Farm and Knoll Farm are all located within a 15 minute drive of Leavesden Studio. Corn Farm and Animal Farm are approximately a 10 minute drive from Elstree studio.

Farms are not only hired for their array of outside settings, they also offer impressive interior backdrops too, including house and barn interiors. A photoshoot for fashion brand, Nobody’s Child, was carried out at Hitch Farm to promote a new clothing collection. Along with the exterior backdrops available at the farm, the production team also chose to shoot inside too, achieving a classic look amongst the vintage furnishings and traditional decor.
Most of our shoot locations in Hertfordshire provide a selection of animals that are available to hire. However, if filming with animals is a top requirement for your latest project, our very own Animal Farm, based in the county, really does live up to its name with its fantastic array of shoot-friendly farm animals including donkeys, miniature ponies, chicken, ducks, sheep, goats, pigs, guinea pigs and rabbits. All the animals on the farm are really friendly and enjoy attention.
