#FARM24 & HARVEST SEASON: CELEBRATING THE HEARTBEAT OF BRITAIN’S FARMLAND

#FARM24 & HARVEST SEASON: CELEBRATING THE HEARTBEAT OF BRITAIN’S FARMLAND

There’s a unique rhythm that comes with harvest time, a pulse that runs through Britain’s patchwork of golden fields as farmers race the weather to bring in the crops before the peak is lost. It’s a busy, intense period filled with anticipation: the culmination of a year’s hard work on the land.

At Farm Locations, we stand proud and firm alongside the farmers and their families who face growing pressures and an uncertain future.

We represent farms built on blood, sweat, and toil — and while we help them find new ways to secure their farm’s future through also being a shoot location, harvest is the season to pause and celebrate. To thank the people who keep this country fed and rooted. And to recognise the incredible range of settings that this time of year offers for film, TV and photography.

THE MANY FACES OF HARVEST

During harvest, the landscape transforms dramatically. It’s not just golden fields of ripe crops:

  • Standing cereals swaying in the wind, gradually being cut
  • A wide range of crops, including barley, oats, oilseed rape, flax, linseed, rye, and quinoa — each with its own height, shape, and colour tone
  • Farmers expertly handling powerful machinery to bring the harvest in safely
  • Stubble fields dotted with neatly placed straw bales
  • A variety of straw forms — large and small, round and rectangular
  • Stacks of grain and heaps of straw stored in barns

Each scene marks a stage in the momentous task of harvest — a time of hard graft, a celebration of the cycles that bring food from soil to table, and a reflection of the deep connection between people and their land.

WHY HARVEST MATTERS FOR FILM & PHOTOGRAPHY

For creatives, harvest season offers an extraordinary palette of backdrops and moments. Whether it’s the golden light across the fields, the hum and heft of combine harvesters, or the striking geometry of straw stacks, harvest provides a canvas of raw, rural beauty.

That’s why we keep working closely with our farmers at this time of year. With quick updates and a shared understanding, we help productions find just the right location, last-minute or in good time.

#FARM24: SHINING A LIGHT ON FARMING LIFE

The annual #Farm24 event, running today (7th August) and sponsored this year by Farmers Guardian and Morrisons, shines a light on the world behind our food.

It’s a chance for farmers to share their daily lives with the wider world — the early mornings, the weather battles, the breakdowns and frustrations, but also the pride, resilience, and rewarding moments that come with working the land.

This spotlight on farming is a great moment to pause and talk. To reflect on the people and places that form the backbone of Britain’s countryside, and to celebrate the landowners who open their gates to film crews.

THANK YOU TO OUR FARMERS & LANDOWNERS
