Website Tips & Tricks: Finding your perfect location is easier than you think

The Best SEARCH tool in the industry?

We’ve been told so!

There’s now also a NEW Image tool to help find your perfect location even easier.

You’ve landed in the right place. Finding the perfect rural location doesn’t get any easier than with Farm Locations. We’ve been told this time and time again, it’s not just us thinking it!

Our website is built around what location scouts and producers need, and the SEARCH and FILTER part of the database is now even simpler, faster and more useful than before.

Whether you’re planning months ahead or racing against the clock in the hunt for a last-minute location, here are some easy tips and hacks to help you get the best out of Farm Locations.

Launching this month is our NEW Image tool, so without further ado, let’s help give you a full laydown of how our search works.

1. Start with the Search Bar

Centre stage on the home page, or front and centre on the Search page, is the SEARCH BAR, where you can type anything in and it will throw you options.

If you know the farm you need, type it here. It will pop up.

If you have keywords that you are after, type here, anything. Press enter, and you can keep adding keywords to narrow down the results, or if the results get too narrow, just click the crosses to release the less important keywords.

2. Are you Catchment Focussed?

Most briefs are. We have a super easy tool that narrows down all locations within a number of miles from your postcode or place.

Type in Bottleyard Studios, make it 30 miles from, and then your results will show:

3. Map or Grid?

Do you like seeing results on a map or prefer a grid?

Take your pick!

And if you choose the Map option (this is our default), click on the Symbol on the thumbnail, and it will show you on the map where it is, so you can work across images and the map at one glance.

4. Get a first look

You can also scroll through some images and click on the “i” button to read a description without leaving the results page.

5. Narrow down with the Filters

If you’d like to see the spread of Filters we have and narrow down between them, do just that.

You can filter by region, props, animals, buildings, or landscapes. Want a location with horses, a kitchen, and private roads? Just tick all three.

You can see how many farms are relevant to each filter, and when you add another one, our search engine will narrow down the search even further.

If you are narrowing too much, just press the X, which will remove the filter, and the results widen up again.

Or if you want to clear and start again, easy, just press “Clear Filters” and/or “Clear catchment”.

Easy and fun!

A note on Strict Search:

If you absolutely must have Horses, ducks and a vintage tractor, all within an hour of Watford, no problem, we will sort it. But if you are more flexible and don’t mind if you have one or some of those traits, just untick the strict search, and your choices will widen.

6. NEW: Download Photos Your Way

When it’s time to show the location to your client or creative team, you can either download all photos or just pick a few that catch your eye. A quick, polished way to build a moodboard.

Previously, you had to download every image on the farm listing. Now you can pick and choose just the ones that matter.

7. Get the Details on the Farm Listings pages

Every listing is packed with photos and some extra notes on crew facilities, parking, and access, so you’ll get a really good flavour before you get in touch. We’ve personally visited most locations, and have virtual recces with those we haven’t reached yet, so please just ask us for any extra information you need. We are sure to have it or can reach an owner very quickly to get it.

8. Up to Date

We have an ongoing dialogue with every one of our owners. The Farm Locations library of locations is not gathering dust on a shelf. The gallery and description should be well up to date, but if you’re after something seasonal (like green rows of potatoes or golden crops), just send us a message and we’ll send you over all possible options (and recent images!).

9. Save Your Favourites

A few farms caught your eye, but you’re not quite ready to make a decision? Or maybe you’ve already decided but would like to save the rest of your options for the future?

Click the “❤️” button, save the locations and revisit them whenever you need!

10. Quick Enquiries = Quick Answers

Once you’ve found a perfect location you love, fill in the enquiry form with as much detail as you can, eg, dates, crew size, shoot aesthetic. The more info we get, the faster we get things moving for you.

Haven’t found the perfect match on our website, or need some advice? Get in touch, and our team will be ready to help you!

11. Booking the Location

As every booking is bespokely put together to suit the brief and client, we will facilitate the arrangements and secure the booking for you. We can’t set one fee for every hire – scopes, scales, impositions, it’s all different. But what we will say is we aim to please everyone, we only ensure a win-win for both client and owner, and that means we should have a location that can work for you.

We will liaise with the owners, fix recces and sort paperwork. The entire process is streamlined to make it easy and quick. Booking the day before a hire is absolutely possible!

Bottom line:

With smart filters, easy downloads, and saved favourites, the Farm Locations site is designed to make your job easier. Whether you need sheep with rolling hills behind them, untouched woodlands or even a castle (yes, we have them too), we have you covered.

And if the filters don’t give you exactly what you need? That’s when we step in. We know our collection inside out, and if you’re after something really specific (or wonderfully quirky), we’ll hunt it down for you. Our wider network stretches beyond the portfolio, and we love nothing more than rising to a tricky brief.

Try us out, find your perfect location now!
